Amazon suppression
Why your Amazon image was suppressed - and how to fix it
Amazon flags 5 image rules that suppress or reject listings. Each is sourced, dated, and fixable. Run a free audit to find which apply to your photos.
Audit my Amazon imagesSee all rulesAmazon main image must use a pure white background
Amazon's product detail and search pages render against a white surface; the main image background must be RGB 255,255,255 so the product appears to float on the page.
What we check: CatalogPrep samples the outer edge band of the image, measures the share of pure white and near-white pixels, and verifies the dominant background color is within tolerance of RGB 255,255,255.
How to fix: Remove the existing background and composite the product onto a pure white canvas. CatalogPrep applies this automatically when the subject mask is clean; manual review is required when transparency, fine detail, or shadows compromise the mask.
Amazon main image: product must fill 85% of the frame
The product must take up at least 85% of the image area on Amazon's main image to ensure it is easily recognizable in search results.
What we check: CatalogPrep estimates the bounding box of the product using the background mask and computes the share of the frame the product occupies.
How to fix: Crop or scale the product so its bounding box covers at least 85% of the canvas. CatalogPrep auto-applies a center-and-scale operation against the marketplace's safe-margin profile.
Amazon main image: no text, logos, watermarks, or graphics
Amazon's main image must show only the product. Any text overlay, brand logo, promotional badge, or watermark on the main image triggers suppression.
What we check: CatalogPrep runs a text/logo detector on the canvas and flags any overlay layer. Findings are surfaced in the review queue with the detected region.
How to fix: Reshoot or use CatalogPrep's AI cleanup edit to remove the overlay (25 credits/edit). Manual review is required when the overlay is part of packaging that legitimately appears on the product.
Amazon: misleading AI-generated main images are prohibited
Amazon permits AI for photo enhancement (background removal, color, lighting, resize), but the main image must truly represent the actual product. AI-fabricated or misleading main images risk suppression, and AI use must be disclosed. Detection is rolling out through 2026.
What we check: CatalogPrep flags AI-generated outputs from supported providers and surfaces a manual-review step before an AI-derived asset is added to the main image slot.
How to fix: Use a true photograph (or an accurate render) of the actual product for the main image; AI enhancement is fine as long as the result still represents the real item. Disclose AI use where required. Manual review required.
Amazon main image: minimum 1,000 pixels on the longest side
Images below 1,000 px on the longest side disable Amazon's zoom feature and reduce conversion. 2,000 px is the recommended size for zoom-quality.
What we check: CatalogPrep reads the image dimensions and compares the longest side against Amazon's 1,000 px floor, flagging images below it. 2,000 px is surfaced as a recommendation for zoom quality.
How to fix: Re-export from your camera or design tool at the source resolution; CatalogPrep does not upscale beyond the source pixels to avoid quality loss.
