Shopify: product images recommended at 2,048×2,048 pixels
Shopify's product media guidance recommends square images at 2,048×2,048 px so the storefront's zoom-on-hover, gallery, and high-density display rendering all stay sharp.
Shopify: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP accepted (JPG/WebP recommended)
Shopify accepts JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP for product media. For product photography, JPG and WebP deliver the best size-to-quality ratio; PNG is best for product cutouts with transparency. HEIC is not a supported upload format - convert it first.
Shopify: product images must be 20 MB or smaller
Shopify's product media uploader caps individual image files at 20 MB. Well-exported JPGs at 2,048 px typically land between 500 KB and 3 MB; very large PNGs may exceed the cap.
Shopify: descriptive alt text, consistent aspect ratio, clean background
Shopify's product media guidance recommends descriptive alt text on every image (for accessibility and SEO), a consistent aspect ratio across the gallery, and clean, well-lit backgrounds so the storefront looks cohesive.
