What's going wrong

Marketplaces are adding explicit rules for AI-generated and AI-edited product images, from outright main-image bans to disclosure requirements. Here is each marketplace's published AI-image rule.

Amazon

Amazon permits AI for photo enhancement (background removal, color, lighting, resize), but the main image must truly represent the actual product. AI-fabricated or misleading main images risk suppression, and AI use must be disclosed. Detection is rolling out through 2026.

Fix: Use a true photograph (or an accurate render) of the actual product for the main image; AI enhancement is fine as long as the result still represents the real item. Disclose AI use where required. Manual review required.

Etsy

Etsy requires sellers to disclose AI-generated content. Listings include an "I used AI-generative technology" checkbox, and Etsy's automated review cross-checks image metadata. Undisclosed AI imagery violates Etsy's Creativity Standards and can lead to removal.

Fix: Tick the "I used AI-generative technology" checkbox (and add a disclosure line to the description), or replace the AI-generated photo with a real photograph. Manual review required.
