Meta Commerce: 500×500 minimum, 1080px+ short edge recommended

Meta's catalogue for Shops on Facebook and Instagram requires a 500×500 pixel minimum (1:1 works across placements). Meta scales images aggressively, so 1080 px or more on the short edge is recommended to keep product cards from looking blurry.

Meta Commerce: JPEG or PNG, 8 MB maximum

Meta's catalogue accepts JPEG and PNG; each file must be 8 MB or smaller (keep images under ~5 MB for fast mobile loads). WebP, AVIF, GIF, and HEIC are rejected at ingestion. Images must be reachable over public HTTPS.

Meta Commerce: avoid promotional text, badges, and watermarks

Meta's catalogue guidance asks product images to show the product without promotional text, sale badges, price stickers, or brand watermarks. Meta retired its hard 20%-text ad rule in 2020, but heavy overlays still risk rejection.

Meta Commerce: image URLs must return 200 over public HTTPS

Meta's catalogue ingestion fetches each product image URL and rejects assets that fail HTTPS, return non-200 responses, or load too slowly. Image CDNs that require authentication will fail validation.
