Amazon: Amazon's product detail and search pages render against a white surface; the main image background must be RGB 255,255,255 so the product appears to float on the page.
Mercado Libre: Mercado Libre asks general categories for a simple, neutral background in light shades. Fashion garments require a digitally created pure light background in white, gray, or cream - busy or lifestyle backgrounds are flagged.
Resolution & dimensions
Amazon: Images below 1,000 px on the longest side disable Amazon's zoom feature and reduce conversion. 2,000 px is the recommended size for zoom-quality.
Mercado Libre: Mercado Libre accepts product photos from 500 by 500 pixels up to 1920 by 1920. Listings under 1000 px on the shortest side disable zoom; 1200 by 1200 is the recommended sweet spot per the official seller guide.
Subject framing
Amazon: The product must take up at least 85% of the image area on Amazon's main image to ensure it is easily recognizable in search results.
Mercado Libre: Mercado Libre's seller guidance asks for the product to occupy roughly 95% of the canvas with the subject centered. Wide empty margins reduce the rendered subject size in search and trigger a quality penalty.
Text, watermarks & overlays
Amazon: Amazon's main image must show only the product. Any text overlay, brand logo, promotional badge, or watermark on the main image triggers suppression.
Mercado Libre: Mercado Libre prohibits seller-added labels like Bestseller or Lightning Deal on the product photo - those tags are awarded by the platform itself. Listings that bake promotional badges into the image are downranked.
AI-image disclosure
Amazon: Amazon permits AI for photo enhancement (background removal, color, lighting, resize), but the main image must truly represent the actual product. AI-fabricated or misleading main images risk suppression, and AI use must be disclosed. Detection is rolling out through 2026.
Mercado Libre: No published rule tracked.
