Frequently asked questions
- What is a HEIC file?
- HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and iPads use by default since iOS 11. It saves space but many marketplaces, Windows apps, and websites can't open it - so it usually has to be converted to JPG.
- Is my photo uploaded to a server?
- No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your HEIC files are never uploaded, stored, or sent anywhere - close the tab and nothing remains.
- Can I convert multiple HEIC files at once?
- Yes. Drop a whole batch of HEIC or HEIF photos, convert them all to JPG, download each one, or grab them together as a single ZIP archive.
- Why does HEIC conversion fail in some browsers?
- HEIC decoding relies on the operating system codec. Safari and Chrome on macOS decode it natively; Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on Windows usually can't. If conversion fails, open the photos on a Mac or install the Windows HEIF Image Extensions, then retry.
- Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
- JPG is re-encoded from the full-resolution decoded image. At the default ~92% quality the result is visually identical for listings and sharing; you can raise the quality slider for archival use.
